Amish Hamburger Steak Bake
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup additional milk for the sauce
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Instructions
Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly greasing a baking dish.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, mixing thoroughly until the ingredients are well integrated.
Shape the mixture into patties, approximately 4 to 6 in number, and place them in the prepared baking dish.
In another bowl, blend the cream of mushroom soup with the additional milk and Worcestershire sauce, if using. Pour this mixture over the hamburger patties in the baking dish.
Bake the dish uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the meat is thoroughly cooked and the sauce is bubbling.
Afterward, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the patties and return the dish to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
Serve the dish hot alongside mashed potatoes, green beans, or your preferred side dishes.
