Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf
Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf
Ingredients
– 1 tablespoon oil
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
– 8 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 pounds ground beef
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/2 cup cheese whiz (optional)
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– 2 tablespoons ketchup
– 2 eggs
– 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
– 4 ounces provolone cheese (optional)
– 8 slices provolone cheese
Directions
Begin by heating the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms, cooking until they are tender, which should take approximately 7 to 10 minutes.
Incorporate the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant, then remove the skillet from the heat.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, cheese whiz, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, eggs, breadcrumbs, and the sautéed mixture of onions, peppers, mushrooms, and garlic.
Form half of this mixture into a base layer, placing a solid piece of provolone cheese in the center. Cover with the remaining meat mixture, ensuring to seal the edges thoroughly. Shape the loaf as desired and transfer it to a baking sheet.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) until fully cooked, which should take about 50 to 60 minutes.
Finally, arrange the slices of provolone cheese on top of the meatloaf and return it to the oven, broiling until the cheese is melted, approximately 2 to 4 minutes.
