Biscuits and Gravy with Sausage and Egg Breakfast Casserole

This hearty breakfast casserole is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a big holiday breakfast or a cozy Sunday morning meal. It’s a favorite of mine and my husband’s, and even with homemade gravy, it’s quick, easy, and satisfying!

Ingredients:
– 1 pound breakfast sausage (mild, hot, or your favorite variety)
– 1 can refrigerated biscuits (or homemade biscuits if you prefer)
– 6 large eggs
– 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
– 1 ½ cups milk
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups milk (for the gravy)
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease and set aside.

3. Prepare the biscuits by cutting them into quarters. Place the biscuit pieces in the greased baking dish, spreading them evenly across the bottom.

4. Layer the cooked sausage on top of the biscuits, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the sausage.

5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and 1 ½ cups of milk. Season with salt and pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage, cheese, and biscuits.

6. Bake the casserole for about 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden brown.

7. While the casserole is baking, make the gravy. In the same skillet used to cook the sausage, add the 2 tablespoons of flour and cook over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until the flour turns golden.

8. Slowly whisk in 2 cups of milkm, continuing to stir until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

9. When the casserole is finished, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.

10. Serve the casserole topped with the warm sausage gravy.
