Southern Cornbread Dressing

Southern Cornbread Dressing
Traditional Southern-Style Cornbread Dressing
Ingredients:

1 cornbread
4 slices of box bread
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
2/3 cups water
2/3 cups celery, chopped
2/3 cup onion, chopped
6 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
Directions:

Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Crumble the cornbread in a baking dish, ensuring no large lumps remain.
Cut the box bread into regular cubes and layer over the cornbread. Sprinkle with sage and salt. For best results, let stand overnight or dry in the oven while preheating.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and sauté the chopped celery and onion until translucent. Add water and bring to a boil for five minutes, then remove from heat.
Pour the celery and onion mixture over the bread cubes. Stir and add the hot chicken broth.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add the milk. Pour this mixture into the baking dish and stir well.
Season with a little pepper and bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
