Salisbury steak with garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom-onion gravy is a delicious and comforting dish. Here’s a recipe to guide you in preparing this tasty meal:
Ingredients:
For Salisbury Steak:
– 1 pound ground beef
– 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
– 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
– 1 clove garlic, minced
– 1 egg
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
For Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
– 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
– 4 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/4 cup butter
– 1/4 cup milk
– Salt and pepper to taste
For Mushroom and Onion Gravy:
– 1 tablespoon butter
– 1 cup sliced mushrooms
– 1/2 cup chopped onion
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 2 cups beef broth
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
3. Shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2-inch thick.
4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
5. In the same skillet, melt the butter for the mushroom and onion gravy. Add the sliced mushrooms and chopped onion, cooking until they are tender and lightly browned.
6. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring well to coat. Cook for another minute to cook off the raw flour taste.
7. Gradually add the beef broth to the skillet, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
8. While the gravy is simmering, prepare the garlic mashed potatoes. Place the potato chunks and minced garlic in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender.
9. Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pot. Add the butter and milk, and mash everything together until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
10. Place the browned Salisbury steak patties in a baking dish and pour the mushroom and onion gravy over them. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.
11. Serve the Salisbury steak with a generous scoop of garlic mashed potatoes and spoonfuls of mushroom and onion gravy.
Enjoy your homemade Salisbury steak with garlic mashed potatoes and mushroom-onion gravy!
